One of the first real fantasy novels I read, given to me by a relative, and over a decade later I re-read it before giving it to my niece. I find it still holds up well.Unfortunately there's something going on with the Norton estate (or maybe the issue is with Mercedes Lackey - who knows?) but you won't find this book online and now it's getting harder and harder to find in print.

I have always loved Mercedes Lackey's work and combined with Andre Norton, this is fantastic.
This book was great for a light-read. It's something to pick up and enjoy if you want a break from bigger, darker, deeper books.
I liked it enough that I'll get the next book for sure, but there's no rush, and it'll be good for a "breather". Not a lot of character development here.
I ordered this book as a replacement was needed, gotta quit lending lol!, and the read was as fantastic today as it was twenty years ago. I'm an old fantasy buff...and some reads don't even come close to making the mark, but its stories like this one that raised the mark so high!
I loved the overall plot and ingenious twists and turns of the story. NOT AN ORDINARY Elven (ho hum!) Tale. But really want these three books on e-reader soon as soon can be!!!!!
Brilliant. I was put onto this book by a friend, and I told her I was delighted by it. And I was. Great story of people coming together to fight a common foe despite the differences between themselves.
This is a book I have read many times and every time is like the first time. I at one time owned the trilogy but after many moves I lost it. This book puts a new perspective and spin on a land based in fantasy. The politics in this series is thorough and easy to follow. I must say this is not anything like J.R.R. Tolkein's works if that is what you think. This has a theme and it sticks to it. I did hope for another book as the afterword but even with some things left unsaid at the end it is a very satisfying read.
Reading down the list of books that Andre Norton wrote. The Halfblood Chronicles were the last on my list. These are some of Andre Norton better works written with Mercedes Lackey. These stories fit into the new century with elements of timeliness. Some of Andre Norton's earlier stories are better off being left out of print (Ralestone Luck, 1938).
